What to Expect at Your First Consultation
You can contact me either by phone, Skype™ or by e-mail to arrange a meeting with me to discuss your tax problem or the tax services required. This will be at a time that suits you. It can be scheduled before you start work, say a meeting at 7:45 am or after 5:00 pm when you finish work.
At the meeting at my office (or at your work or home if that suits you more) you can talk to me openly in a confidential and relaxed environment. You will be dealt with in a non-judgmental and professional manner as you would expect. What is discussed at the meeting is fully confidential and will not be discussed with anyone.
At that meeting, after discussing your personal circumstances and income sources etc, I will give you my opinion of what you need to do from a tax point of view. A strategy and time frame to deal with the tax issues affecting you will be discussed.
If further information or documentation is required for the assignment, (which was not already provided to me at the meeting) it will be requested at the meeting.
As with accountants, banks and solicitors etc , I will required photographic identification such as a driver's license or passport with a recent utility bill showing your home address.
You will also be sent a 'Letter of Engagement' to read and sign. Essentially this is a statement setting out, in 'plain english' the tax work that I will do for you so that we are agreed as to what tax services that I will provide to you. It also sets out clearly what you the client can expect from me the tax adviser/tax agent (e.g. professionalism and work carried out in a timely manner etc.) and what I expect from you the client (e.g. that all information is provided to me to fully carry out the tax services and in a timely manner). This 'Letter of Engagement' is common practice in all tax consultants and accountancy practices.
Where a Tax Return is required to be prepared, the following would typically be covered by my fee:
1) Preparation and submission of Tax Return to Revenue.
2) Preparation of an 'Income Tax ' computation outlining the estimated income tax underpayment or overpayment.
3) Preparation of an 'Income & Expenditure' account for rental income or self-employed income.
4) Advice in relation to payment of underpayments of tax and preliminary tax (where applicable).
5) Agreeing final tax position with Revenue and checking tax assessment to ensure that they are correct.
6) Phone calls and correspondence concerning the above.
If you want to arrange a meeting to discuss your tax affairs, please do not hesitate to contact me.
